In this workshop therapists will learn through ‘doing’.
This 2.5 day workshop is designed to teach massage therapists how to interpret drug information. It will also help them learn how to use that information to develop safe and effective treatment plans for clients taking medications.
Upon completion of this course, participants will possess the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to understand how and why medications work; how medications can influence the outcome of a massage treatment; and how to adapt or plan a treatment that promotes client safety.

At the end of this workshop therapists will be able to:
  •  understand the language of pharmacology;
  • appreciate the variety of prescribed medications and over-the-counter preparations;
  • describe factors related to drugs that could influence the outcome of a massage assessment and treatment;
  •   plan and adapt a treatment for a client taking pain medications and be able to justify that treatment;
  • recommend safe hydrotherapy and rehabilitation exercises for a client taking pain medications.
  • Adapt techniques to work effectively around injection sites, implanted devices and skin patches and
  •  communicate confidently about medications with members of the health care profession.
